As he searches we learn more about him, ghosts, Irish folk lore and the accompanying prejudices and the magic mysticism of Ireland. A great, entertaining book -- funny, violent, peopled with wonderful and evil characters. You will love it.

The Prologue is set in May 1950 but is only three pages long. Though a short piece it’s packed with drama as a woman is murdered while her baby son sleeps quietly in a nearby forest, hidden by great ferns. The book proper begins with chapter one set in April 1976 as a young man from Dublin named Mahony arrives in the town of Mulderrig. Now what do you think are the odds that Mr. Mahony is the baby son of that murdered woman? Right, they’re pretty good odds indeed. The reader will deduce this quickly but the folks in Mulderrig won’t catch on for a while. Mahony’s landlady, Mrs. Cauley, recruits him to help audition locals as performers in the town’s Christmas play. During the auditions Mrs. Cauley sneaks in many questions about Orla Sweeney and her whereabouts, a woman who turns out to be Mahony’s missing mother. All this curiosity causes a much greater interest by the townspeople in Mahony and just what he is doing in their town. Mahony, Mrs. Cauley, and other friends begin an investigation of the various characters in Mulderrig and who might be suspects in Orla’s disappearance. There’s even a supernatural element involved; the images of many dead citizens appear at different times to point the way. The unique charm of the Irish way of writing English prose is another enjoyable feature of this novel. You’ll have a grand time as long as you don’t get banjaxed by a wayward undesirable one. Fair play to you!

I am a voracious reader but am not enthralled with every book. THIS book was great! Engaging characters and a good plot--I could hardly put it down, and have recommended to friends.If you are a lover of all things Irish, and enjoy a bit of fantasy and ghostiness, you will love this book.

This is a wonderfully entertaining book. Having driven the roads of Western Ireland myself, I could easily picture the setting of this town that isn't...where a young man coming from Dublin determines he must visit to discover what happened to his mother here.The earth, wind, deceased spirits and lively characters meet with his will to help find the truth.Cannot think of a better St Paddy's Day read than this Kindle book, just $1.99 from Amazon.

Himself is an unusual mystery as we don't know from the beginning of the book if the character "disappeared" or was murdered. After all, this is Ireland and given the history of folk tales and myths, Orla could have been taken by the fairies. Unlike many readers who have commented here, I do not think this is a wonderful read. It is not literary fiction and I knew from the start that I wasn't reading Sebastian Barry or Roddy Doyle. The story was engaging enough and the characters developed enough but I stopped reading 2/3 of the way through the novel and returned it (to Kindle). The reason? Animal cruelty and abuse that has nothing to do with the story. The author refers to drowning kittens in a bag many times throughout the novel as it pertains to the disappearance of the main character. What finally did it for me was a cruel and completely unnecessary description of killing a pet that one might think fit the plot or added to the novel. I could not get that image out of my mind and I stopped reading the novel shortly after that. Do yourself a favor. If you want to read a murder mystery that takes place in Ireland, read Tana French.

He lay as mute as a little mushroom.”He’s an adult now, old enough to search for her, for the reasons why she abandoned him. This book is a must-have for your library. If you work in the corporate world, you need this book! If you can afford it, the Audible is excellent as well. Carla lays out several real-world scenarios and provides real-world advice for correcting any mistakes you've made in your career (I almost feel as if this book was written about me). I can't thank the author enough. I wish I had this guide 20 years ago. Better late than never. I will definitely be adding and using Carla's Pearls to my toolkit.

If you haven't read any of Carla Harris books before, and need some good career advice, read this. I purchased the kindle and upgraded to the audible to listen on a long car drive. She covers all different kinds of career scenarios and strategies to implement. This is not just another self help book - it has appropriate examples of both good and bad situations with great background and assessments. I recommend this for anyone in any stage of career life - early, mid, high end.

This book is a must read for leaders who want to UP their savvy in negotiating and navigating life in corporate America and all of its politics. Not only do I highly recommend it, I have given this book to coaching clients as a must-read, and to friends who are among the executive ranks of their careers. It is practical and easy to read but do not be fooled. Carla owns this content and presents it like few authors that I have read and I read and facilitate 40+ classes, sessions and discussions each year for the past 15.

First, they are asked to "shake" the book to produce snow and then "tap tap tap" the book to pack it down, followed by "tilt," "turn," "jump," and so forth. The action words are in red, matching Bunny's jaunty red scarf on the opposite pages. Eventually, Bunny skis into a hole (an actual die-cut hole through three pages of the book) and falls. His mom then greets Bunny with a warm bowl of food and takes him to their den to rest. Only two colors, light blue and bright red, are used, with charcoal lines against a white backdrop. One of our favorite children's authors/illustrators is at it again! She's created another fantastic, interactive book, readers of all ages will love.What's more fun than being snuggled up under a warm blanket, sipping hot cocoa on a cold winter's day? Being on the slopes with Bunny of course. But Bunny needs some help from you, the reader. From making it snow, to helping Bunny ski down the slopes, and make a big jump, readers will love helping Bunny tackle his day on the slopes. While it is a lot of fun to be up on the slopes, if you don't live near a mountain, this might be the second best thing. I'm pretty sure Bunny would agree, too.This is a fanatic book for story time. Fans of Rueda's Here Comes Santa Cat (and Cat's other stories), have a whole new character to fall in love with. Like Cat's stories, Bunny's story is one that makes for a memorable story time, with plenty of laughter.This one book we'd recommend picking up!

LOVE THIS BOOK! We all sit on the floor and read the book together so we can all "tilt" and "shake" as a class. We followed this book up with an art project where their bunny was able to slide down a slope glued to a popsicle handle.

Such a cute book!!! My young nieces have recently started to learn to ski and were absolutely delighted with this story of a bunny and his time on the slopes. The illustrations were so adorable and the story made the girls smile. A win for this aunt!

Cute, but short, story. Not quite what I expected after reading book reviews in our local newspaper, and it's a bit "young", but our almost 4 year old gets a giggle out of Gramma overacting the lines and his baby sister will grow into it. Best for 2 or 3 year olds.

This is a GREAT book. My children love interacting with it and it makes them crack up every time.

My first graders love this story! It’s so much fun to read too!

I was extremely disappointed in the book. From the advertised description I envisioned a much more interactive book. Merely turning the book sideways or shaking it was not what I'd hoped for and the children were not enthused. Actually they were as disappointed as I was.

So cute. A fun story about a skiing bunny. My son loves it. The bunny asks for help and the reader is supposed to shake and tilt the book. Very sweet.

My 3 year old niece loves this interactive book and its companion doll.
