Barry Farber is one of the founders of talk radio; the medium that may well be the last hope of America.Mr. Farber is a great story teller and has a very disarming way of speaking in southern idioms that are curious, charming and illuminating. He knows all the techniques and skills of the broadcasting business, overcoming the great flaw in radio performance that you are totally cut off from your audience and know not whether the people appreciate what you are saying, have turned the dial or gone to sleep.In that respect radio is the most difficult medium for a performer, even more than motion pictures where everything is planned to the last second and retakes are a regular part of the process. In radio it is one shot and you have to have your act together pretty well to pull it off. Barry Farber shows you a path to that goal.

This book is more for business men making conversation than shy people. Farber helps to make your statements more interesting.

As the title states, this is a book about making people talk. Barry Farber is a well known radio host who has interviewed some of the most important people in America and this book is his "self-help" book on how to make people talk. Like many other conversation books, this one is about (mostly) speaking to people you do not know very well. Farber takes a different approach to this and also talks about why you want to cultivate both friendships as well as casual relationships with many people. It is about what they can do for you. Farber explains that this is not a cold, callous way to look at it, because if you cultivate a relationship by talking, people will want to help you out if they are able (they may be able to help you get a job, give you advise, help with a promotion, get choice basketball tickets, etc). Farber also notes that some people who you initially are speaking with because of their potential value to you may become a better friend than those you have grown up with. Farber also writes that it is everyone who you should improving your communications with and making them feel that what they have to say is important.This book is written with many anecdotes from Barry Farber's life to illustrate the point he is making, and it was much more interesting than I expected. This is not a dry explanation on how to better make people talk, but an engaging book. Farber does not suggest that this will be easy, but only that it is worthwhile to be able to make people talk.

I bought this book in the early 90s, and I remember loving it. Then I reread it a few years ago and realized just how much I had learned from it. You should read it too.

Why is the book so expensive? I want to read it but the price is ridiculous.

I would like to go faster, and am at times frustrated, but failure with other methods has shown me that a time-tested and contemplative method such as this one is just the right way for me to go.This method is working for me, and has worked for countless people since it was first written in 1986. Not only am I experiencing an improvement in the intimate areas of my life, I also am having a much easier time sending energy to a particular spot in my body and sensing energy in others. This is very important to me, as I am currently working toward Reiki II training.The most wonderful thing of all: this book aims to empower people to enrich the private, sensual moments in their lives, but the benefits of what this author illustrates extend far beyond intimate encounters and into the realm of everyday life. Still working my way through the book but so far it's been interesting and helpful. I'm eager to finish it.

struggled with reports from Access to Excel when we should have been using Excel to get data from the queries running the Access reports.

Been a DBA using DB2 and Oracle now I need to use Access yuch. Well this book has great examples well written. A fast read and good reference. I might like Access.

Very helpful for making the transition between excel and access.

I was one of the first to order this book and when I received my copy I was disappointed. Most of the index to this book was missing, it only had two pages. It covered the letter "A" and only a portion of "B". I returned the book and requested a new one. I received the second book and it had the same exact problem, a LARGE portion of the Index was missing. The customer service rep said that they would check all locations for this quality error and stop the book from being ordered until they resolved the issue. This happened on Monday, April 12, 2010 and as of yet they still have not pulled the product from being ordered and have not called me back saying that it has been resolved, which they said that they were going to do. After two books I still do not have a complete book!! So for those of you that just ordered this book, check the Index. Now Amazon has YOUR MONEY!

Skimmed through it in one night. Will be studying this in more detail for my project. Getting it from excel point of view is great, since I know excel. Very useful...highly recommended. Got the ebook version to bypass any potential issues with the missing index, but I'm guessing that should be fixed by now.If I hunger for hardcopy, I'll get the book later. I personally like option to have both hardcopy and electronic versions.

For the past year, I have been designing reports with Access for an Oracle based exposure assessment software package. I have incorporated many of the tricks presented in this book into my work. Hands down the most useful Access book I have - even with the annoying issue with nearly all of the index missing.

So helpful in marrying Excel and Access. Love the visuals and examples. Don't hesitate to pierce the mystery of Access when you're a big Excel user. You'll experience the power of Access as a backend engine, at least, and increase controls when they're absent from Excel.
