Patrick King does a fantastic job of identifying what makes a conversation work, and what makes a conversationalist fail. Never before has someone laid out so clearly and easily to understand the elements you need to deploy in verbal interactions with others. And they are so easy to apply. Already, my conversations have improved immensely. I'm really seeing here what I did in the past that turned people off so much. I knew I was doing something wrong, but the other books I read didn't identify it. Hence I kept searching for a book that would disclose this secret to me. And I found it in spades in here. Honestly, I was so vexed by my inability to engage people productively in conversations, and I'd see other's conversing so fluidly and happily with each other. I'm a smart person; why couldn't I succeed at something seeming so obviously simple? Now I know what I was doing so wrong, what turned people off, and I've stopped doing it. So simple! And now I do the right things he recommends, and they light people up!!Thanks, Patrick, for this great book! You've done a terrific service to nincompoops like me who could not converse happily with others. Now I can! It's really working. And I'm enjoying people so much more.And for anyone skeptical about this review, be assured I'm no relative or friend of Mr. King, don't know him, never met him. I benefitted greatly from reading Improv(e) Your Conversations, and I think many people who are not completely happy with their social skills would like it as well. There's something about having some concrete ideas to try when I venture into a social situation that gives me confidence. I've already tried the techniques with my husband and one friend--with great success!--and I may post an update after I have tried them with more people.

First time reading into improv comedy but was able to get a lot out of this. It's a bit on the short side which is good and bad depending on who you are. Great information overall.

I’m uncomfortable with groups of people I don’t know, probably because I never know what is going to come up and if I will be able to have an answer for it. Usually I don’t! This book helps explain how to act and react greatly. Hits on the basics of great conversation and interaction and makes you feel more confident about chatting to others, even strangers!

I am in sales, not improv, and this book was a hit. I used it for improving my connections though conversations with prospective clients. It was an immediately noticeable change for how I had my clients engaged.....both on the phone and in person. So many quality conversational take aways. An "out of the box" way to help my sales. I think it is transferable across many disciplines/industries.

It had some good stuff, and some good exercises to practice with. Like any book it did have a few dull points

This was a pretty decent book. But a lot of the advice was common sense in my world. I don't have just a ton of communication issues though either. I just love to learn new things.

I am basically a bit of a shy person, sort of the observant type than a talker. I picked up a lot of techniques to try on my future conversations with friends. Immediately I tried the free word association and made 14 associations the first time.
