Neil Gaiman's speech can probably still be found on the internet, but having a physical copy is just as good as him reading it on the videos. The format is fun and colorful adding emphasis to make good art without being distracting. His words in this famous speech are true to everyone not just those who are into drawing and painting.

I am actually really upset about this purchase. Nothing about the Author or the speech itself is the issue. The problem is that I CANNOT READ IT!!!I have a Kindle Fire HD8 and for whatever reason the majority of the pages come up too small, or the font color just blends in too much.I will admit that this could be an ID10T error, and if someone could show me the way I would be happy to follow, because I love this speech or at least the few small bits I have heard of it. It's what I recite to myself to myself when I am at those "What now?!?!" moments.I need the whole speech please? Can this be fixed??

The actual text was very engaging, but I had to concentrate on picking the words out that it was a bit of a chore, which is unfortunate. Artistic layouts are fine, but should not come at the expense of a less enjoyable reading experience.

This is a great read. Short and inspirational. The only regret I have is that I got the Kindle version. It’s clear they spent a lot of time on the layout and design, but it’s hard to read and appreciate on Kindle.

The speech was incredible, motivating, inspirational, a great message to artists.So I wonder, how come the design of this book was so poorly executed? Someone needs to give this book a redesign and do it some justice. After all, the title is "Make Good Art" - this is a bad example of that for sure!I can see if they were going for bold and perhaps quirky, but this is plain ugly and in no way allowed me to fluently read the speech that has so much impact on it's own. The contrast of the colors, arrangement of text, changing font sizes, is incredibly distracting.I do not recommend this product, I recommend simply watching the speech until they redesign the book!

Love Neil Gaiman. I've watched the recorded version of this speech a couple times, it's great. This book makes the speech rather hard to read. I can appreciate the artistic license to give the speech some graphic appeal but I didn't care for it. I would rather have seen something like what Zen Pencils does.

Neil Gaiman has been one of my favorite authors for many years. I've read almost everything he's written and have never been disappointed. This book is no exception. Its inspiring message is perfect for every new graduate or indeed anyone who has wondered what to do when things get tough and the future seems uncertain. The book is designed by graphic artist Chip Kidd, which is an extra treat. And as an added bonus, the book contains the web address where you can watch Neil Gaiman give the speech. Don''t miss it!

I love reading about the creative process and reading the wonderful Neil Gaiman thoughts on making great art. I read this every few months to remind me to funnel my frustration into positive creative things.

This volume is a fine introduction to the works of the modern Irish stage. Including three noted plays by the three pioneers of this theatre, Yeats, Synge, and O'Casey, this anthology begins with an introduction by W.A. Armstrong putting these plays and these three playwrights, along with the genesis of the modern Irish stage, in context of Irish literary nationalism (the Irish Dramatic Movement), from the 1890s on through the years of the Irish Civil War. The plays themselves make fine reading of course, especially Synge's oft-anthologized "Playboy of the Western World", but one might wish that the volume's editor had compressed his commentary preceding each play into the anthology's general introduction. There is a fine preface preceding "Playboy" by Synge himself that is well-worth reading to better understand his inspiration in writing this great play. Truly he writes here: "On the stage, one must have reality and one must have joy", and one has both in full measure in this play. All three plays, and the editorial introductions to the plays, illustrate how these works, as that of the Irish Dramatic Movement in general, partook of both rigorous realism, in depicting the harsh world lived by the Irish farmer and poor, and an eloquent psychology of fable, of men and women living not only on the land but in the land as well.

Hypnotically beautiful language,in the lesser known works as well as in Playboy Of the Western World.So much so that you cans find yourself mimicking , at lest in your mind, the lyrical voices of these characters

JM Synge, the author, of this play created a brillian drama that still engages lovers of drama and scholars of Irish literature. I read the play many years ago and have taught it when I taught British litarture in college. It reveals a great deal about the relationship between Great Britain and Ireland.

The insight into the Irish Culture was great. The story itself was like a chameleon that turned from tragedy into a comedy and back again. The follies of common folk who want to live vicariously through another man's crime are interesting to consider. I enjoyed the play very much. Would like to see a production of it sometime.

It is difficult to criticize this play. Synge used satire in such a way that the first audiences missed it,... They threw things at the actors for insulting the Irish, etc. .When it played at a Great Lakes Shakespears festival, a commentator said it contained some of the best English outside of Shakespeare....

Playboy of the Western World, has always been a difficult play. It spawned riots wen it was first produced. But it does have several scenes in Act I that are great acting lessons.Especially when yer tryin' to learn the dialect.

I love Irish theater. I read years ago from a source I can't recall that to understand the Irish mind, read or attend the works of its playwrights. These books fit the bill.

Worth reading for the historical value of the play itself.
