This is not a comprehensive book on Java. This book is really good for new programmers to learn programming / the basics of Java.It makes a great book for high-schoolers wanting to learn Java, or for parents and teachers to use to teach beginner Java.The book is very clear, has a great layout and is easy to follow.

As the title suggests, given the cost and the content, I'm really happy with this book.For someone who has never worked with Java (and/or object-oriented programming), this seems like a smart way to get a basic foundation started. Some of the early chapters are quite simple, but that's surely by design, to help avoid gaps in knowledge. The middle chapters focus on variables / data types, flow control, classes, et al. There's a chapter toward the end on deploying applications that I found very useful.In short: it's for Java beginners; it serves that audience well; at US$10, it's easily worth it to me.
