I received a free copy from the author and voluntarily reviewed it.This series just keeps getting better and better. Demon Magic and a Martini was such an exciting read and an important one for the series so far. It's action packed, there's character development and secrets come to light. It was awesome. In Demon Magic and a Martini we get to learn more about the demon magic in this world. A demon is loose in the city and all the guild work together to stop this demon. But demons are hard to kill, so it's pretty dangerous. And ofcourse Tori someone gets in the middle of all this. There is plenty of action, magic and some big focus on the characters too. This was a very exciting and interesting read. There are some big reveals and secrets that come to light in this book. From book 1 I've been curious about Ezra and his secrets, it's been clear that he has some big secrets, from the scars on his face to some mysterious powers he has and in this book we're finding out pieces of it. It was awesome to find out some of the secrets he has hiding and learn more about his character. And the way it's build-up toward the reveal was done well too. It starts with little hints and when I was pretty sure I knew what was going on with Ezra we slowly start finding out the truth. It really felt like an important book for the series, things take a turn for the worse, big secrets come to light and Tori has a decision to make, which will impact what happens next. And even with everything we find out even more questions pop up and I am so curious to learn more in future books. I also liked how Tori really doesn't want to know the truth in a sense and how it actually made for an interesting situation. No one is telling her things, but she isn't asking for them either for a long time. There is an interesting bit of character development for her there too. And things touch upon her own issues and troubles a bit too.I felt this book was a strong one in terms of character development and fleshing out the characters some more. Mostly the main characters (Tori and the three mages), but also some side character of whom we see another side or get more details and some new side characters too that I think will be important in the rest of the series. It's also fun how we get to meet some new side characters, some of which will have an important role in the rest of the series I think.I liked how the three mages get develop more in this book, Aaron, Kai and Ezra's personalities seem to get fleshed out a bit more and also their bond and the strength of their friendship really shows here. I really liked seeing how they have each other's back and how far that goes. And we also see how Tori fits in this. There are some hints of a possible future romance in this book as Tori starts feeling some more attraction for one of the guys and I am curious to see if that will turn into more in future books. It's also an important book in terms of world building as demon magic or the demonica class is not something we heard a lot about in previous books and this book is all about it. There is a lot we learn about demons, how they're summoned, different types of demons and their powers that sort of thing. It was really interesting to see that class get some attention and also still get to see enough about the other classes too. One of my favorite things in this series is still how Tori as a regular human is part of this whole magical community and I liked how in this book we see more of how she is fitting it and holding her own.To summarize: This was such an exciting and engaging read. There are some big things happening in this book and it was packed with action, tension and some big reveals. It was a hard book to put down as I just wanted to keep reading and find out more. There is some great character development going on in this book and I enjoyed seeing how Tori and the three mages dealt with everything that comes their way in this book. It was great to learn some of the secrets the character were keeping and it really put things in a different perspective. I liked seeing more of the three mages and also how strong their friendship is, which is something you really see in this book. I like the little bit of possible romance hint we get in this book as Tori starts developing some more feelings for one of the guys. It's an important book in terms of world building as we learn more about the demonica class, which was interesting. And I love reading about Tori and seeing how she fits in this all. All in all this was an awesome read and I can't wait to read what happens next!

Y'ALL. i have been waiting for this book since two witches and a whiskey! april couldn't have come fast enough because it would bring this book and more news from annette marie herself. i am absolutely BESIDE myself with this—i was so, so excited and impatient to see where she would take things with demon magic.that's one of my favourite things about reading marie's works: with each addition in a series, she ups everything. stakes, relationships, the world its set it. characters grow and they learn and combined with what i've listed, it makes the next instalment even more exciting.with the fourth book in the guild codex: spellbound series, it's FINALLY EZRA'S BOOK. oh you guys, i lovelovelove ezra soso much! even more so after this book! for the first three books, a lot of readers, myself included, were wondering what exactly ezra is because there's certainly more to the (soft) aeromage than meets the eye!and with the addition of demons—actual DEMONS!—and more on the demonica class, demon magic was a wild ride. tori's view of the supernatural world has not been easy from the get-go, but demons are a whole other level for her.i found this book more serious than the others. there were definitely funny quips throughout, of course, but this felt like a real gamechanger for tori and the guys. with everything about ezra going on and a demon running rampant, stakes and tensions are super high and everything is more dangerous. it's a little bit darker than the other books, and it feels like a real eye-opener for tori. i've really come to respect her with each new book, and this one continued that pattern. she realises some important things about herself and i feel like she's set on changing that about her character. i admire her a lot!there is another, bigger reason why i was anticipating this book but lol, i won't say because i'd have no idea where to begin. let's just say i see where you're leading with this, annette marie, and i. love. it.one more thing: the dynamic between kai, ezra, and aaron! i say this about them in all my reviews, BUT UGH. they're... wow. i've never read a more tightly knit group. kai and aaron would do anything, no matter the risks to them, for ezra, and it really pulls at my heartstrings. ezra would do anything—anything—to protect his friends, and i ached for his situation throughout the book. we find out so much about him and there's still so much left to learn, but i'm just glad he's getting more page time! (i always feel like he and kai never got as many scenes as aaron did, but i'm glad that's changing—and continues to do so, in kai's case).overall, another solid book from annette marie, and once again, i am beyond excited for the next book! that ending was the first time i felt like i'd been left on a cliffhanger, and i am way too antsy to sit still and patiently wait for the fifth instalment.

Annette Marie has been one of my top authors for a long time, because I know whether it's the first book of the series or the 4th (as in this case), it's still going to be a quality book. And this is yet another example! Book 4 of the Guild Codex finds us exploring another branch of mythics, demonica. And we also get a closer look at the secrets not yet shared between Tori and the three. This book has a lot that happens in it, but I think the most important part - for me - was the continued fleshing out of Aaron, Ezra, and Kai. The last two books you'd see bits and pieces of one here, or another there, but Tori definitely was the main attraction. This book, while still focused on Tori and this episode's trouble, gave us back more of the trio of mages again both in singles and in triples. (And can I just say how much I loved seeing more of Ezra??)We also get a bit more on the inner workings of the Crow & Hammer, which I appreciated. Each book gives us more of the world, revealing more a Tori learns more. I really do like that approach! And can I just say that Darius is amazing? I'm thoroughly glad it was their bar that Tori stumbled into so many months ago.As a human mythic, Tori should be at a disadvantage, but yet she makes the absolute most of what she has. A couple artifacts, Hoshi, and a loyalty that overrides common sense sometimes, but Tori has definitely found her home in the mythic world. And I still am happy she gets to stay there!(Now, can we talk about a new role for her, after the revelations in this book? Yet again I finish a Guild Codex book excited to see what opens up for her after everything is revealed in this book!)
