As a career US Navy submarine officer, I was personally offended by the lack of knowledge that the author demonstrated about USN submarine or surface naval operations. For example, other authors strive to clearly get the dialog correct for standard ship operations. A classic example is the author's consistent use of meters for depth specification. He demonstrates a singular lack of knowledge about how a submarine controls itself within the ocean -- submarines do not control depth with blowing and flooding tanks, submarines establish a neutral buoyancy as close as possible and "fly" the ship underwater. The senior officers demonstrate a singular lack of professionalism that we pride ourselves in. Very disappointing.

Maybe its me, I was expecting some context, a lot of action but no context so the action meant nothing. Don't need two pages of dialog on a torpedo launch. Plus same wording often used over and over for torpedo launches, missile firings , tec. For example, the crew leaned hard to maintain their balance, way too often. I get it, when the boat maneuvers the deck tilts. Often the book would simply plunge into dialog and you had to double clutch (for you old folks) to figure out where you where, who was speaking, etc. No new paragraph, nothing, yet you had moved from the boat to Washing D.C. Since the USS Stonewall Jackson is an US Navy boat maybe we should use American spelling for words. Some pages had the words centered, not left justified, why? Need an editor also.Did there really have to be a love interest between the captain of the boat and the female officer? Who of course was hot!!! Against the rules to have average looking women or incompetent ones for that matter.I did get one happy surprise, my Kindle told me I was 74% done and the book ended. The other 26% was chapters from another book.OK, one thing I liked, let's face it NO ship/boat in the US Navy would ever be named the USS Stonewall Jackson.

I am a bit disappointed in this book. The plot is not the issue. It was obviously written by someone who has not been in the US Navy nor has he researched it well enough, as the execution of the language of naval orders is WAY off. e.g. "Course Forty depth Seventy" vice "Course Zero Four Zero, depth 220 ft (not 70 Meters). Could not finish the book.

I just finished reading this book. The action was enjoyable, but as a former US submarine officer I was very distracted by the totally incorrect dialog of the control room team. The steering, speed, depth control, and all other commands were not given and acknowledged as required on a US submarine. It was so irritating, I almost quit reading before the end. I forgive the unrealistic tactics and results, but surely the communication can be realistic. Please engage a real US submarine officer to edit for correctness.

I'm sorry, this book just didn't do it for me, didn't keep me on the edge of my seat (kept thinking it would get better). Sadly, I don't think I will be reading the second book.

At one time I worked for Electric Boat in the Nuclear Design shop. The book is quite realistic, though the Jackson is not a “nuke”, as the incredible quietness of the conventional battery powered boats was well known and was our unobtainable objective for the boomers as we struggled to refine designs and improve damping. Of all drives to reduce sound signatures.Well written for a young writer. He has a great future. If you love sub stories you’ll love this one!

It's an interesting subject but the character development is minimal and the writing itself suggests that it was written in a couple of hours.

The worst submarine book ever written! The author knows nothing about submarine operations and didn't bother to ask anyone who did.He also didn't do much grammar checking. If I could have given it negative stars, I would have.
